Why a Global Day of Action for Housing?
The Global Housing Action Days is a series of coordinated actions such as occupations, protests, and rallies across our international networks, demanding an end to corporate greed and government complicity in the housing crisis. From April 25-26, communities will rise up to reclaim homes, resist evictions, and/or fight for housing as a human right.
Across the world, we are under attack. Corporate landlords, predatory banks, funds and complicit governments are making life unbearable by taking away our livelihoods — evicting families, driving up rents, leaving buildings unsafe and hoarding vacant homes while millions are left homeless or crushed by unaffordable rents, mortgages and wars.
We are unhoused people fighting for dignified housing, communities taking back land stolen by speculation, tenants refusing evictions, workers struggling for secured spaces. We refuse to accept a system that treats our homes and living spaces as assets instead of human rights and basic human necessities.
On April 25-26, we rise up together!
All around the world we march, we occupy, we block, we organize, from squats to rent strikes, from mass protests to community-led solutions. Our fight is global, and so is our resistance!
It’s time to fight back and show that solidarity knows no borders. We gather, we protest, we squat, we organize—from occupations to rent strikes, from mass protests to community solutions.
A system that prioritizes profit over human life is a system we must dismantle. Our struggle is global, and so is our resistance.
Key Demands and Messaging
We unite across borders, backgrounds, and struggles to challenge corporate greed and government inaction. Just as the opposition organizes across borders, so must we. Whether we are tenants, unhoused people, squatters, workers, or land defenders, we stand together in solidarity behind the shared goal of securing dignified, affordable, and climate-resilient housing for all.
Some key demands groups are fighting for:
🏠Homes for People, Not Profit: End real estate speculation and corporate landlord dominance. Guarantee housing as a public good, not a commodity. Enshrine the right to affordable, dignified, and secure homes for all.
🔥Dismantle Corporate Landlord Power: Break up real estate monopolies, return land to communities, and prioritize cooperative and public ownership models. No more housing empires built on displacement and exploitation.
🌍Climate-Resilient Housing Now: Governments must invest in disaster-proof, carbon-neutral housing. Housing justice is climate justice—no one should face displacement or death from preventable disasters. Save land, repurpose vacant spaces, and build for a just future.
💣❌ Homes, Not War: Defund war and militarism—fund public housing. Stop genocide, domicide, and the destruction of cities. No more bombs on homes while people sleep in the streets. Housing is a human right, not a casualty of war.
Let’s fight for housing, not for profit!
The Global Housing Action Days Organizing Principles
We are all committed to organizing under shared guidelines and ask anyone planning an action as part of the Global Housing Action Days to follow those principles:
#1 WE ARE A GLOBAL AND COORDINATED MOVEMENT UNITED IN SOLIDARITY — WHEN ONE OF US WINS, WE ALL WIN!
From major cities to rural communities, the housing crisis is a global struggle—and so is our resistance. Across the north and south, from east to west, we face the same forces driving displacement: corporate greed, government inaction, and policies that put profit over people. But we do not fight alone—we are a coordinated, organized movement, standing in solidarity across borders. We share strategies, take collective action, and defend our homes together. Our movement is diverse—tenants, unhoused people, Indigenous land defenders, workers, and farmers—united by the belief that housing is a human right. Respecting our independence, we welcome dialogue and support from other social, political forces and institutions that share our principles and values.
When one of us wins, we all win. Every blocked eviction, reclaimed home, and policy victory strengthens us all. Together, we are not just resisting—we are winning.
#2 WE ORGANIZE, BUILD POWER TOGETHER, AND GROW OUR MOVEMENT TO ACHIEVE CHANGE
Organizing is how we turn individual struggles into collective action and build the power to win. We are not just mobilizing—we are developing leaders, strengthening, empowering communities, and creating the conditions for real change. This fight belongs to everyone, and we welcome those who step up to take action. Every new organizer, every community that rises, and every institution that shifts toward housing justice makes our movement stronger. Together, we are not just resisting—we are building the futures we want.
#3 WE BELIEVE IN ACTION TO CHALLENGE THE STATUS QUO AND BUILD CHANGE
The housing crisis is the result of deliberate policies that put profit over people. We believe in the power of nonviolent direct action to expose injustice, disrupt business as usual, and force those in power to respond to our demands. From rent strikes to occupations, from mass protests to community defense, we take action with strategy, discipline, and courage. We’ve run out of time, we cannot wait to fight for our homes—we take collective action to make housing justice a reality.
